From ambient music and experimental soundscapes to effects one wouldn’t expect from an algorithmic reverb, I braved the elements many late nights, witnessed an aurora borealis or two and attempted to chart new creative territory in Breeze. I included special effects for all kinds of instruments and vocals. Additionally, I also included presets for orchestral processing, general daily-use reverbs, and some drum and percussion processing as I started to integrate Breeze into my contemporary classical composition, scoring and theater templates where I found it to be equally useful.
One of their reverbs captured our interest recently, being that it is an emulation of some legendary digital reverb units from the semi distant past the EMT fromand the from is their Reverb. They have plugins ranging from precise mastering EQs through to colourful vintage emulations of gear, metering packages and some really handy effects. PSP is a developer of high quality audio plugins that have become a staple in many audio engineers diets. I threw a myriad of different sources at it and the result was always somehow otherworldly yet strangely organic.

The wide high frequencies make for a very wide reverb - listen for how it gets wider as it reverberates and the lack of mid signal with the reverb.The Valhalla is a lot more similar to the Pro-R. The Pro-R has the most extension into the high frequencies and they sound very natural and pretty - not phasey and well portrayed from the original signal. Audi a4 low boost problemIt has fairly a similar tone character to the but with a lot more low mids and centre signal whereas the is more scooped and wider. These have more energy later in the reverb that holds out for quite awhile - has a very non linear decay until the delay time is up and sound surprisingly natural for being a recreation of such an old digital reverb.The UAD is a very punchy with an explosive beginning that fades in energy and tapers off very quickly obviously you can increase the RT60 on this unit though.
A review of the Valhalla DSP ValhallaPlate reverb plug-inValhallaPlate is completely algorithmic, so it was presumably a DSP challenge to program it to realistically emulate the sound of a plate.The aforementioned metal-types are found under the Mode pull down menu, and include Chrome, Steel, Cobalt, Brass, Aluminum, Copper and one called Unobtanium. The audio is passed through it by way of a transducer causing the plate to vibrate, and other transducers pick up the audio to return it back to the mixer.The result is a somewhat metallic sounding reverberation that can be great for vocals, drums, guitars and more. When combined the reverb becomes a lot more lush and the higher frequencies that jumped out and slapped a bit in the are a lot more controlled, very nice and natural sounding.Most software reverbs offer a choice of halls, plates, rooms and other types of virtual spaces, but Valhalla DSP takes a different approach.As a result, you can get a high-quality reverb, albeit of a single type, for a very low price. The higher frequencies in the have a nice slap to them and seem to have a different energy spread than the lower mids which tail out longer. The compared to the has more low mids and a little more bottom end, giving it some more lushness but not as bright of a feel to the reverb.Both have very similar characteristics in the decay. It has an interesting way that it seems to pick up certain harmonics in places compared to some of the other reverbs.
In practice, I found the differences to be small. Width makes it possible to change the output characteristics.Rate goes from 0. The Size knob allows you to control the density of the virtual plate.
I was able to get a variety of different and very usable sounds from ValhallaPlate. Two more things about the GUI: On the positive side, the ValhallaPlate window is resizable, which is handy, especially for those working on small screens. You can, of course, store your own presets in the User Presets section. The presets offer a variety of choices for vocals, drums, guitars and more.These contain mostly vocal or snare presets.
I put together a short rock piece, with drums, bass, electric rhythm and lead guitars and piano, and used Valhalla as the only reverb.I used two instances of the it on aux tracks, one with a shorter reverb for the snare, and one with a longer decay for the guitars and piano. The reverb sounds full and warm.For other instruments, ValhallaPlate was also quite effective. I also used it on vocals, again with excellent results.
Also bear in mind that UAD is a lot more money and requires proprietary hardware. I used 2-second decay times on each, and tried to keep the playing field level when it came to setting the other parameters.I think Valhalla does a good job of holding its own. The reverb setting features Unobtanium mode and 4.

It kind of makes you wish the modulation could be pushed to extremes, too Clearly, a lot of time and thought has gone into Valhalla Plate, taking it way beyond simply a slavish EMT emulation, but retaining the subtlety and nuance required of any quality hardware emulation.And with so many models to call on, it goes some way towards recreating the inevitable variation between echo plates in the real world. That's considerably more than you'd be able to coax from a real plate, which opens it up to more creative effects uses. Finally, Valhalla Plate allows decay times up to 30 seconds. Every model has its own depth, resonant character Osmium picks up snare body beautifully, for example and stereo image, and our favourites are Unobtanium quite bright and wide and Radium wonderfully unobtrusive.When you want to tweak, the EQ is powerful enough to curtail mid and low build-up and boost the top end for splashy effects, and the modulation delivers adequate though not excessive wobble. From the reasonably neutral and spacious Chrome and Steel modes, via the upfront and brighter Brass, to the darker Titanium and Lithium, the base options, even before you start editing them, are quite excellent. Plate reverbs typically have instant onset, short high-frequency decay the mid-range usually defines the decay timeand a slightly weird but pleasant stereo image.Valhalla Plate emulates all of this perfectly while giving an amazing amount of sonic variety from mode to mode.
Also, I really don't like when companies make it almost impossible to reach them via phone.I haven't found a phone number to Reverbs customers service yet, and I think it may not exist. However, I'm not impressed with the customer support, at least not from a buyers point of view. Adjustable plate size.I like the interface and the app a lot, and overall the idea of a dedicated marketplace for these kind of items is very good. Goes beyond real plate decay limits.
